On May 8, Produktif in partnership with A2m will launch the installation of 2 structures with large blocks of ice inside on the Oslo waterfront behind the Opera House in Operastranda, in front of the Munch..  On June 19th, these will be revealed in the presence of the Princess of Belgium and government representatives from Norway and Belgium.

One of these structures is using conventional construction methods and materials, the other is passive house standards and Produktif’s Design for assembly and Disassembly (DFAD) construction system. We expect there will be a significant difference in ice melt at the reveal, which we can translate into both carbon impact and economy over time. .

Outline Arkitektur is designing these structures, which will be built by Ly Hytta, and A2M will oversee the energy performance. Produktif is introducing their framing system which will be demonstrated on reveal – addressing another major sustainability crisis of lifecycle waste with circularity.

Measuring Carbon Impact

By now, most are aware of how our CO2 emissions overall are driving a dangerous change in the earth’s climate.  But these calculations are complex in the path from sourcing raw materials to producing products, transporting them, and the length of their active lifecycle.  Part of our demonstrator exercise will be in educating how these factors add up, and what can be done about them.
