Produktif is creating an open construction platform called expoSpace, devoted to showcasing suppliers of construction products and services.  These structures would have  many potential markets, such as a showcase at  indoor construction trade shows, or an outdoor public venue residing in city squares or grounds, like the exciting circle concept pictured above by architects Margit Klev and Nicolas Jury of Outline Arkitektur.

The expoSpace is intentionally providing a display case for suppliers’ products and services who are first adopters of a mass-custom industrial construction process.

Produktif contributes a WORKS™ 4-step industrial process whereby we can (1) globally source, (2) locally manufacture, (3) manually assemble/disassemble onsite, (4) with a digital platform service that aims at continuously improving the value offering over time.

The expoSpace is both a display window and “sandbox” for suppliers who wish to enter the circular construction market through several types of venues, leveraging WORKS™ processes for the mass-customization of mass-produced standards parts that can be quickly assembled in to custom constructions, disassembled and reused. While targeting trade shows, indoor or outside events, the same methods can be scaled to multi-purpose constructions, buildings and infrastructures. The expoSpace is committed to provide offgrid autonomy or microgrid connectivity.

The system is delivered as kits that can be erected into different shapes that can be modified and moved for different purposes. This adaptability improves the sustainability rating of components that can be reused for multiple life cycles.

We are currently designing the expoSpace digital twin that we call FLOW™ that includes metadata such as environmental product declaration (EPD) information and Building SMART georeferencing. FLOW™ serves as a dynamic 3D blueprint that can be updated through a dashboard that can assess multiple sustainability ratings. This dashboard provides a powerful tool for developers and designers who wish to compare different scenarios in their preferred Building Information Modelling (BIM) software while sending a Bill of Materials (BOM) to part suppliers..

Its workings: A synergistic construction system where the assembly is larger than the sum of its parts. Much like in nature, we observe a smart and living organism with its skeleton (structure), its organs (functional elements), its skin (surfaces) and the circulatory/nervous system (MEP/HVAC) functioning as one holistic system. Every part is designed for speed of assembly, for its disassembly and reuse potential. Assembly can happen in a few hours thanks to CLICK™ physical interfaces. Many elements are delivered flat pack, which reduces shipping costs. The expoSpace could tour Europe in a small truck with a minimal work crew, and be put together manually by volunteers without mechanical lifting equipment. We strive to make all parts less than 25 kg for safe handling. The elements can be easily containerized for international deployment.

On December 15, 2023, a diverse selected group of 40 construction industry attended a live online webinar presentation where we first presented the concept. This included architects, engineers, builders, product manufacturers, material suppliers, software developers, and investors. The response was encouraging. In a follow up, ⅔ were eager to participate, and the remainder were still very interested in following progress. We learned that they had priorities such as:

  • Collaboration with other companies to lower cost of participation
  • Addressing sustainability and carbon footprint through circularity and reuse
  • Opening new markets as a component in Produktif’s Design/Build/Lifecycle ecosystem
  • Being part of an impressive and innovative display system in multiple showcases.
  • All were concerned with sustainability issues.
  • Nearly half are already implementing solutions and the other half currently developing plans.
  • Surprisingly, half of them had found current construction industry trade shows not practical for furthering themselves.

We are excited at the possibilities and enthusiasm we’ve encountered so far, and eager to explain and discuss further with potential participants and other interested parties.
